Chopin Law Firm Represents Client in Fatal Bayou Segnette Boating Accident
On November 19, 2017, one woman was killed and two other people were seriously injured after their boat crashed into an unlit moored barge near Bayou Segnette. At around 4:15 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard received a report that a 22-foot recreational boat with four people on it had collided with the barge. As a result of the collision, the young woman was ejected from the water craft, killing her.
DETAILS SURROUNDING THE INVESTIGATION
An investigation into the accident is being conducted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), the United States Coast Guard, the Jefferson Parish Coroner and the Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office. Not all details have emerged yet, but the LDWF did release a statement saying the woman who was killed was 26 years old and the ages of the surviving victims—two women and a man—range from 23 to 34. The Coast Guard uploaded a video of the rescue, showing the helicopter aircrew hoisting the three survivors and transporting them to West Jefferson Medical Hospital.
One of the parties injured in the boating accident and the family of the decedent have retained the services of The Chopin Law Firm LLC.
